Mr. UN
40 minutes
Mr.
UN opens in San Francisco as WWII draws to a close. Bunche, an
advisor to the US delegation to the founding conference of the United
Nations, plays a key role in drafting those sections of the UN Charter
that will determine the future political status of the colonized areas
of the world. Two years later, at the UN, Bunche oversees the successful
transfer of power from the colonial administrators to the people of
the former Trust areas. Later, as Undersecretary General for Special
Political Affairs, Bunche strategizes and oversees international peacemaking
and peacekeeping operations. As the threat of a devastating nuclear
war intensifies, Bunche is charged with setting up the International
Atomic Energy Agency. Educators will find this a useful guide to the
study of leadership within an organization.
